January 26, 2005: Five weeks after the accident I have my follow-up appointment. For the last 4 weeks, I've been taking it easy on my left arm, working on keeping up my posture and shoulder alignment, and wearing the sling when I walked around to keep the weight of my arm off my shoulder. Over that time my arm's been getting a lot better. Over the last week or so it almost felt as if I was good as new. Apart from some slight aches when I really streach my shoulder I don't notice any problems during the course of the day. I was pretty surprised when I saw my x-ray and the bones were not fused together. The doctor said that I'm actually doing very well, better than expected. He didn't expect fracture healing this early, and was very happy that the bone has settled closer to its proper position. He told me that I can continue using my arm as much as I want for day to day things and I should work on moving it around and streaching it out with light exercise, unless I feel really serious pain. I just need to avoid anything that'll cause very heavy strain, like weight lifting or pushups. I have my next follow-up in 2 months.
