Me and my girlfriend, Carina, had a great time enjoying the beautiful Autumn weather. We discovered this small Kayak rental shop in Houhai, and took a boat out on the lake to show the paddle boat riders how its done. Viewed: 321 times.

In the fall, Xiang Shan (Fragrant Hills) is a favorite day trip for Beijing locals. When me and Carina went there the weather was great and the temple almost serene. Viewed: 303 times.

Outside of the temple, Xiang Shan park was absolutely packed with people. Its a tradition for locals to come here in the fall to see the famous red autumn leaves. Now are there more people or more red leaves? Its hard to tell. Viewed: 255 times.

To get to the top of the hill is an hour or so climb up concrete steps in a crowded procession of other park visitors. The view from the top shows the sprawl of Beijing. Viewed: 253 times.

The view from the other side of the hill shows the rest of the park. Its amazing how calm an empty the parks is, in the areas that are not easily accessible by public transit from Beijing. Viewed: 260 times.

On Halloween, me and Carina dressed up and went out dancing. Our last minute costumes were in an animal theme. Panda and Rabbit hit the clubs! Viewed: 301 times.

The 798 district of Beijing is an old industrial park that's been converted into an art district packed with cafes and small galleries. There were quite a few examples of cool modern art. Viewed: 279 times.

Its hard to tell if these extra-patriotic sculptures are meant to be taken ironically or not. A lot of the new Beijing art scene seems to be about beginning to express individual views about the countries politics and history. Although usually the artists use a soft touch and avoid outright criticism. Viewed: 287 times.

When I walked into this old factory that now functions as an art gallery space, I realized that I'd been here before. Its also used as a really atmospheric venue for techno dance parties. Viewed: 288 times.
